The Holy Bible is the Holy Book that contains God's salvation plan for mankind. The word Bible comes from the Latin word “biblia” which means book. Hence the Holy Bible simply means the Holy Book. Some people believe the BIBLE stands for B – Basic, I – Instructions, B – Before, L – Leaving, E – Earth. The Bible is divided into two, namely the;

1. Old Testament
2. New Testament

Testament simply means the covenant. So we have the old and the new covenant. The Old Testament primarily focuses on the prophecy about the coming of the Messiah and event that happened before the Messiah came into the world. The New Testament focuses on the coming of the Messiah thus the event leading to his birth, life, death resurrection and ascension of the Messiah. It further tells us the story of the early church; how the church was formed and the activities of the apostles after the ascension of the Messiah (letters and messages they wrote to the church either to encourage the congregation or address issues in the church). The final part of the New Testament is the prophecy about the end times and event that will happen before the world will end and Christ take his throne as king of the universe.

Functions or Purpose of the Bible

Sometimes the Bible will rebuke us for the sins we do. The Bible also corrects us when we go wrong. Its words help us find the right path.
